Prima Princessa Swan Lake Review

I recently reviewed the DVD Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake. Well, actually I watched this with my daughters. My little one takes ballet lessons and is in love with everything dancing. She was completely mesmerized by this DVD. My daughter enjoyed it as well and my son even came in to watch the end with his sisters. He kept insisting that one of the little girls in this DVD was our little one. My little one was on her feet practicing various ballet steps like pirouette, jeté and grand battement through most of this DVD (with my daughter instructing her).

Prima Princessa, an animated fairy ballerina, magically transports a group of little girls to see the Paris Opera Ballet perform select segments of Swan Lake. In between acts, the children return home to learn simple ballet steps which are playfully shown mixed into colorful montages of toys, animals, children and young dancers from the School of American Ballet.

At 40 minutes, this DVD was just the right length to hold my girl's interest. The Fairy Ballerina, Prima Princessa, narration was fabulous and allowed my children to understand what the ballet, Swan Lake, was about. This is a terrific way to expose young children to the world of dance, if you have not done so already through classes.

Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake on DVD March 2nd {Giveaway}

Since Kylie and Caitlyn are both taking ballet, tutus and leotards are often the topic of conversation here at our house. They are in love with anything having to do with ballet, and I often catch them practicing their steps when they think no one is looking. :) I was very happy to be introduced to a new series of ballet DVDs fromPrima Princessa. We received theirPrima Princessa Presents Swan Lake DVD. A combination of actual professional ballet performances and instructional how-to's, Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake had my girls twittering around the house for days!

Prima Princessa, an animated fairy ballerina, magically transports a group of little girls to see the Paris Opera Ballet perform Swan Lake. They don't show the entire ballet of course, and in between acts are instructional segments teaching the girls ballet steps. I had to laugh when we first sat down to watch it! The girls are in awe at the professional ballerinas and their male counterparts dancing around gracefully, and John David is just obviously confused. Suddenly, he blurts out, "That boy has tights on!" Once we got past the fact that this DVD did not appeal to him one bit, the girls and I were able to enjoy the beautiful performances.

I think every little girl aspires to be a ballerina at some point, and watching the giggling little girls in Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake dancing around without a care in the world was great fun! I have wanted L to take ballet classes since she was born, but my husband says the same thing every time I mention it " I cannot see paying $65 every month, when she can dance at home for free". Men, they just don't get it! If I am being realistic I understand that as a family of six we really can't afford that, but I still want her to learn ballet.....

Enter Prima Princessa... If you are like me and want your little princess to learn the fine art and discipline of ballet but can't take out a second mortgage to pay for lessons (which I don't recommend) this DVD is for you! I can not say enough good things about it, but I will try! 

First of all Prima Princessa presents Swan Lake is only 6.99  HERE at Amazon.com that is unbelievable for a DVD! Secondly the way it's put together is so simple (as in it interests my 22 month old) yet so sophisticated! I was quite shocked when I hit play and realized we would be watching actual ballerinas from the school of American Ballet preform Swan Lake, and I'll admit I wondered if it would keep her attention, which it did! I think I enjoyed watching it as much as she did!

But the best part (aside from the animated ballerina who narrates the DVD) is that it engages your little "student" of ballet and gets her involved in the movements all while teaching basic ballet terminology!It's like the Baby Einstein of ballet! 

This DVD has really encouraged me to do all I can to teach her about ballet, even if I can't afford formal lessons! I even plan to buy the the Prima Princessa

Ballet For Beginners Book so I can learn more about ballet!

My Thoughts:

I was so happy to learn I was going to be able to review Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake. I am always looking for things my daughter can interact with and learn from. When I received the DVD Prima Princessa presents Swan Lake I was amazed at how well my little one took to the video.

We put the DVD in and she just loved the Prima Princessa cartoon Fairy. When ever she came on the screen she just love it she would jump up and down. My youngest just loves music, dancing and colorful things.

She would twirl around while the dancers were dancing. This DVD kept her active and she clapped and danced and Twirled.

I like how the DVD would show parts and explain the story of Swan Lake. Then they would show the little children acting out the scenes. It showed some basic moves that the children could do and learn right along with them. They also had the word of the move they were doing on the screen so the kids could look at the word see how it was spelled and hear it pronounced and then they were shown how to do it. She really liked the cartoon fairy on the screen.


I thought the DVD was well done with a nice balance of seeing the ballet, they would explain about the scene they just watched, then the children would dance out the scene and then there would be a lesson on what a particular move was. I really like that they showed examples of how the steps were and the meanings at times by showing animals doing them.

Now my daughter really loved the parts in the DVD where the children were dancing around and playing and laughing. She really enjoyed the music as well as the cartoon Fairy. However she wasn't fully interested in the actual performance by The Paris Opera Ballet. Mom sure did though I think I was glued to that part more than the others :-) I love ballet.


My older children even got involved they would dance with her and help her do some of the twirling. They really enjoyed watching their baby sister dance. She really got the Jump part down. Jump, Jump, Jump and more Jumping.

I enjoyed watching her trying to figure out how to get on her tipsy toes. She would reach in the air and then try to get up on her toes.

Oh and she loved the colorful case and thought the case tasted good also.

I can't wait for the Nutcracker it's coming fall of 2010. In Spring of 2011 Prima Princessa will be presenting Sleeping Beauty.

Review on Prima Princessa presents Swan Lake DVD

I was asked to review this DVD Prima Princessa presents Swan Lake and I jumped at the chance. My lovebug is 2 yrs old and loves to dance and gallop around my house, so I figured she would love it!

The DVD is awesome! It shows you clips of Swan Lake preformed by the Paris Opera Ballet and then shows you the Ballet moves to learn and then shows clips of Students from the School of American Ballet & little prima Princessa Ballerinas doing the moves. My lovebug loved the Jete' the most.. :)

She was even sad when it stopped

This DVD is PERFECT for any little girl wanting to dance and learn to dance! It's fun to get the wiggles out and fun to just watch together mommy, daughter time! It runs 40minutes so not too long to lose the attention of the little ones, but long enough to have some fun time together.

I can't wait until piglet is old enough that they can do it together as sisters.. :)

My Review:

I love this DVD! More importantly, my daughters loved it! As soon as the music started, and the ballerinas began to dance, so did my girls. They swung their arms and kicked their legs and pretended to be ballerinas throughout the DVD. It was the perfect length to keep their attention, and I love that it incorporates exposure to both classical music and dance. I know that any little girl will love this DVD!  I highly recommend it!

Prima Princessa Swan Lake Present Review and Giveaway

My daughter, Olivia loves anything princesses and ballet. She loves wearing tutus. Sometimes I wonder if she's too young to like these stuff. Lately she's been obsessed with wearing dresses. She refuse to go outside if she's not wearing a "princess" dress. No wonder sometimes people think she does not look like a 2 years old!

I was so thrilled when given a chance to review the new DVD Prima Princessa Swan Lake Present . I knew Olivia was going to love it....And I was right! The moment she saw the DVD she wanted me to open it and play it right away. When she saw the little girls with tutus, she pulled me to her room to get her a tutu and said "common mommy...hurry hurry!" She danced until it ended. She even wanted to see it again but I did not let her. Not that I did not like it but it was seven in the morning and she was not the only one dancing. I was too! She wanted to be carried and twirled her around . She did not let me sit down!

We have watched it many times since we had it. Olivia's favorite part is when they teach you simple ballet steps. She looked so cute trying to copy the steps, even though she can't copy it exactly. The DVD is 40 minutes long. But honestly it did not felt that way. I guess when you are having fun time flies. I like that the narrator of the story is a little girl instead of a grown up. Olivia also paid more attention because she can relate to it. Hearing her repeating the names of the ballet steps are just too cute!

Overall, we love and enjoyed this DVD. I think any little girls would love to have this. I do wish that it teaches you more ballet steps. I definitely recommend this DVD. It would be a perfect gift for any occasions.

MY REVIEW: 

I admit it.  When I was a little girl, I wanted to dance my little tush off and spin around as fast as I could.  I wanted to make up routines and wear the pretty clothes.  Well, I never did get to be a little ballerina, but my daughter is now at the age of 5 and wanting to dance like a princess.

When Prima Princess sent me this DVD, my daughter wanted to watch it in the living room so she would have plenty of room to twirl around.  She LOVED it.  She loved the music, the ballerina's and the cartoon ballerina that narrated the movie.  She is even asking for tutu's and ballet shoes now.  She liked how they showed her different ballet moves and now she is anxious for Daddy to get home so she can show him.

The only thing is my daughter wishes it were longer.  It is only a 40 minute movie, and she was still wanting to dance! So I happily replayed it for her and she is enjoying it again.

A great DVD for your little princess, dancer or music lover child.  They will get 40 minutes of fun and you will get 40 minutes of peace!
